Percent of Wisconsin Children with 4:3:1:3:3:1 Immunization Series

Measurement Period: 2021

Why is this important?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend routine vaccination to prevent 17 vaccine-preventable diseases that occur in infants, children, adolescents and adults. Vaccines are among the most cost-effective clinical preventive services and are a key component of preventive health care. Childhood immunization programs provide a very high return on investment. Healthy People 2020 reports that for each birth cohort vaccinated with the routine immunization schedule (including DTap, Td, Hib, Polio, MMR, Hep B and varicella vaccines) society saves 33,000 lives, prevents 14 million cases of disease, reduces direct health care costs by $9.9 billion, and saves $33.4 billion in indirect costs.
