Foreign Born Persons

Select a Census Place
Measurement Period: 2018-2022
This indicator shows the estimated percentage of the population who are foreign born (persons not born in the United States). The percentage includes all foreign born persons, regardless of whether they are naturalized U.S. citizens.

Why is this important?

Foreign born persons may face unique challenges depending on the length of time they have spent in the US. Foreign born persons who migrate later in life are potentially vulnerable due to limited English language proficiency, which can impact their ability to utilize health care and other social services. They may be more likely to reside in linguistically isolated households. These individuals may have little or no U.S. work experience or face other rules barring them from participating in entitlement and welfare programs. By contrast, long-term immigrants may face challenges similar to their U.S.-born peers as they age.
