Rate of Hospital Encounters Involving Opioids Per 100,000

Measurement Period: 2014

Why is this important?

The abuse of illicit drugs, including the non-medical use of mood-altering prescribed drugs, inflicts tremendous harm upon individuals, families, and communities. Other drug problems tend to vary by geographic area, but the abuse of powder and crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine and opiate based prescription drugs occurs across Wisconsin. Portage County’s drug-related suspensions and expulsions rate, per 1,000 students during the 2013-14 school year was 4.8%, which was greater than the rates for Marathon, Wood, or Waupaca Counties.
